Grief Ministry

You don’t have to walk through grief alone. We offer two Christ-centered options to help you process loss, find hope, and take your next step—GriefShare and Grief Ministry Workshops.

GriefShare

Grief Ministry Workshops

Topic-based grief education classes with practical tools and teaching.

GriefShare

GriefShare is a 13-week Christian-based support group program created by Church Initiative, a non-profit ministry founded by Steve and Cheryl Grissom in 1993, that helps people navigate the loss of a loved one through video seminars, small group discussions, and workbooks, offering a safe space to find hope, learn coping strategies, and connect with others experiencing similar grief, covering topics like loneliness, anger, guilt, and fear in a Christ-centered, biblically-grounded way.

  • Weekly meetings for 13 weeks
  • 30-minute video teaching each session
  • Supportive small-group discussion
  • Participant workbook for reflection and growth

Best for: those seeking relational support and shared experiences.

Grief Ministry Workshops

Grief Ministry Workshops offer a wide range of grief education programs developed by Randal Doaty, founder of The Grief Ministry, a nonprofit ministry focused on improving grief literacy and promoting healthy loss reconciliation. These programs allow participants of all ages to learn a wide array of loss-specific topics related not only to death and trauma, but also other everyday loss circumstances. These classes use Grief M.A.P.S., unique tools developed by Mr. Doaty, to teach complex loss-reconciliation philosophies.

  • Classroom-style sessions (length varies)
  • PowerPoint-based teaching with resources
  • Workshop handouts and outlines
  • Optional discussion-sharing not required

Best for: those looking for practical teaching and tools.

Loss Shock Disclaimer

Both the 13-week GriefShare program and The Grief Ministry Workshops may contain material that is temporarily difficult for individuals experiencing loss shock to understand and retain. Loss Shock is experienced as debilitating mental fog and emotional instability that is quite common immediately after a tragic loss. We encourage everyone to participate in these loss ministries, but we want you to be aware that some people struggle when they attend our grief ministries too soon after a loss. Please get in touch with us if you would like to discuss whether you are ready for these programs.

FAQ

Do I need to choose just one option?
No. You may attend both. GriefShare offers ongoing group support, while the Workshops focus on grief education and practical tools. Many people find the two complement each other.
Is there a cost to attend?
No. Both GriefShare and the Grief Ministry Workshops are offered at no cost. Our desire is to remove barriers and make grief support accessible to everyone.
Can I attend if my loss happened a long time ago?
Yes. Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. Many people find support and clarity even years after a loss.
What if my loss is very recent?
If your loss is recent, you may be experiencing loss shock, which can make processing difficult. We’d be happy to help you discern whether now is the right time or if another next step might be better.
