Last night on TV, I heard a discussion about how to secure the US/Mexican border, particularly how to prevent the flow of illegal drugs into America. I will spare you the political opinions that were given, but one comment caught my attention.
One of the panelists said that drug use in the young age bracket dropped 25% during the past eight years. The host asked what may have caused this. The panelist first mentioned the faith-based initiatives that were helping people to confront their addictions.
Of course I thought about Celebrate Recovery. There are some 500,000 people worldwide who have been a part of this program. Saddleback says that about 1/4 to 1/3 of all participants deal with a chemical addiction. That means that CR has helped tens of thousands of people specifically deal with their drug hang-ups.
It was exciting to hear, through the secular media, how programs like CR are impacting our world. I'm sure there are dozens of struggling people for every one who is plugged into a CR group. We need to continue to find them and offer them help. We need to offer hope to those who have none. We need to offer support to those who are alone. We need to point people to the Way, the Truth and the Life so that they can be transformed from broken and desperate to living in freedom.
We can be a first line of defense against broken homes, broken marriages, and broken lives. We are making a difference.
